THE BUTTERFLY EFFECT

This is a text heavy page that is necessary for understanding the timeline, and returning to ALPHA to progress further. The page is broken down into sections for easier reference

Your attention here is very much appreciated.

Also, this section will contain spoilers for Deta - Dyo as events that have transpired there will be discussed. Should you wish to return to Deta - Dyofirst, you may do so at the bottom of the page

What is The Butterfly Effect?

The most classic concept. What most people think of when they think about changes in time, and the first theory exemplified in this experience.

The Butterfly Effect is a concept from chaos theory spelling out how small changes or actions can have wildly different and unpredictable effect. Can’t talk about this theory without mentioning its name, which comes from the idea that the wind created from a butterfly can create a chain reaction that leads to a tornado somewhere else in the world.

While many examples in film or other media portray the Butterfly Effect as being a small change creating a huge effect, its actual depiction simply has to have the following:

  • A small action

  • A chain reaction of events

  • And finally an unpredictable and far-reaching consequence.

That being said, this specific timeline has an extreme conclusion. This was done to exemplify the concept as much as possible and is a sentiment shared across other timelines as well.

However, it’s also worth mentioning, that the Butterfly Effect is not the only reason for ALL the events in Beta - Ena. That, is where the second theory used comes in.

Example

Taking the most classic one as reference, the Butterfly Effects name comes from the idea that a Butterfly’s wings caused minor variations in win patterns that ultimately lead to a tornado happening

Another example would be forgetting to take an umbrella with you one day. It begins to rain causing you to arrive at your class late. Arriving late means all the seats at the front have been taken leaving you to sit at the back where its harder to understand what’s going on. This eventually lead to a bad result in a test as a result of just a seemingly insignificant action such as forgetting an umbrella

How Delta - Dyo showcases the Butterfly Effect

The atomic bombing of 2 nations is by no means a small action.

However, compared to the end result of time-travelling Nazis starting World War 3 and creating a time loop of their own demise, the atomic bombing of Germany too is objectively a smaller action.

Every event subsequently is a chain reaction of this action that results in the time loop. While the big reveal only occurs at the end, the escalation to a wildly unpredictable outcome is present, Even smaller actions within the timeline such as the existence of Tea Beans eventually leads to Japan siding with the Nazi party once again as they felt constant discrimination over the years

Conclusion

The Butterfly Effect is the concept of small actions causing a chain reaction and leading to an unpredictable outcome
